Sailor Moon

Friends, I realise that 80s purists might be gagging at my inclusion of Sailor Moon but if you were born in the mid- late 80s you may have watched the adventures of the clumsy crybaby-turned-guardian of love and justice on Toonami just about as much as us 70s born kids watched the smurfs. Besides, I’m a fan and this is my blog ;P

Storyline

Now there is no way I’m going to get the whole storyline here but I’ll try because eventually all the reincarnations made my eyes cross. So here goes: Usagi Tsukino is 14, clumsy and emotional and one day finds out by crossing paths with a little black cat sporting a crescent-shaped mark in her head that Usagi is really Sailor Moon, a guardian of love and justice reborn on earth to protect it. As she tries out her skills she runs into new friends (Sailors Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus, the inner planet soldiers) who also are reborn to protect their planets but are on earth to find and protect the Moon Princess whom they eventually figure out is Usagi. At some point you find out everybody is reincarnated as something or other and related to each other and- that’s just the anime. I pretty much had to take notes to follow the manga and I’ve read the series front to back (and back to front lol) 4x now.

So during the 5 season run they run into some of the most creative demons you’ve ever seen (lipstick daimon? did they run out of ideas and rummage in someone’s purse and go, Here, put some boobs on her and that’ll do??). They also meet Luna’s love interest and Sailor Venus‘s cat Artemis, the outer planet soldiers (Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Pluto), Usagi’s boyfriend Mamoru who is also her prince in the future, Sailor Chibi Moon who is the Prince and Princess’s future daughter, the outer solar system soldiers (Sailor Star Healer, Sailor Star Maker, Sailor Star Fighter), Elios, the guardian of the Prince’s holy place, Diana who is Luna and Artemis‘ future daughter, and eventually all manner of Sailor soldiers nobody knew were out there in the stars.
