I am sure you get many emails so I will try to keep it brief.
I am sorting a very large collection from a family members estate. All types of dolls and many rare and collectable.
There are over 100 CPK which seemed out of place in this collection.
There are several with no head mold number. Signatures are in black or red. They all appear to be mold number 5 from your descriptions.
Is this a known variation or something that is expected to be found?
Thank you for your time.

Hello- so I’m guessing that the hair or body cloth is covering up the head mold number, as happens sometimes (usually right at the neck). Head mold #s can literally be all over the place on the back of the head and a “batch number” can also be present somewhere in there that can make it confusing to tell what mold the Kid is.
Black signature Coleco Kids came out in 1983 which is 2 years before head mold 5 was produced. Note that black signatures were also used later on in the line but 1983 “first edition mass-produced” kids by Coleco had no year on the signature, it’s just the signature.
We can rule out that they may be foreign-produced kids if they are indeed head mold 5s.
The other possibility is your black signature kids may be Jesmar kids though they were only made in molds 1-4. But if the mold # is obscured that could be a possibility as black signatures were used by Jesmar in 1984 and 1985. To determine if they are Jesmar kids look at their body tag, it would read JESMAR on it. Jesmar kids were produced for Coleco in Spain and distributed in Europe and there are collectors who really love those kids in particular and will generally pay more than for Coleco dolls.
Your red signature kids are Coleco Kids from 1986 and red wasn’t used by any later company on CPK dolls (such as Hasbro, Toys R Us, Jakks Pacific, etc). This signature should have a date on it.
As far as worth of the dolls, that’s totally up to what people are looking for and what they’re willing to pay for. I always suggest doing a search for similar CPK on ebay, Mercari, Etsy, etc to see what people are selling their dolls for but more importantly, look at closed or sold listings to see what they finally sold for and that gives you an idea of what people are paying right now if you’re looking to sell.

Hope that clears things up a bit.
