It seems to me the last time I saw white jeans being worn in public willingly was around the time Wham rocked ’em with those signature white tees (you know the ones, with rolled up short sleeves. Yeah, rolled up short sleeves. Whatever. They called themselves Wham for crying out loud.)
So Old Navy is trying to change that by bringing white denim back in all it’s attention seeking glory. Which is great if you’re either a 21 year old guy or a 12 year old girl. I take that back- if you happen to be a 6ft tall woman you could probably get away with them too.
I got a pair through the Style Council program through Crowd Tap and a pal of mine is going to go pick hers up this week. Honestly I was freaked to death to get free jeans but once I got them on in the dressing room I became painfully aware of just how squat my legs are (“Packhorse legs”, my father used to say. Sensitive, right?). Being 5’3″ puts me way below the 6ft cut off to look in any way okay in white jeans. So of course I took them home and picked up a couple of shirts from the clearance bin so the visit wasn’t a total waste. I’m looking forward to seeing what my friend comes up with because that girl can rock anything. But otherwise Old Navy, you know how it pains me to say this but this is one trend that should be left fondly in the 80s.
