Arguably a Terminator ripoff, Trancers (1984) starred Tim Thomerson and Helen Hunt coming back from the 21st century to do a little time-dabbling to change the future. Though there were several Trancers films, the direct sequel Pulse Pounders was shot but never released. 20160830_235715701_iOSIf you liked this post, VHS Video Cover Art by Thomas Hodge / The Dude Designs (Schiffer Publishing) is available on Amazon, chock-full of gorgeous VHS cover art from the 80s from forgotten gems to total camp and a total run down video rental memory lane. VHS Cover Art Goodies: Bloodsucking Pharaohs in Pittsburgh

20160831_000148356_iOS

Originally called Picking up the Pieces, it was clear to the producers of Blood-Sucking Pharoahs of Pittsburgh that this was not a title befit for the comedy-horror flick filmed in, yes, Pittsburgh, PA about a woman slicing and dicing her victims, Egyptian style. A complete splatter film that I DO NOT recommend, Pharoahs was censored quite a bit to sneak under an R rating. VHS Cover Art Goodies: Eye of the Tiger

Yes in fact this is the Eye of the Tiger movie with the Survivor song Eye of the Tiger in the credits. Gary Busey is on a mission to take out a gang terrorizing the neighbourhood, manufacturing drugs and eventually killing his wife. Busey was in a crap-ton of stuff in the 80s but I would hedge other than his Lethal Weapon role, Eye of the Tiger was probably one of his biggest. b20160830_235715701_iOSIf you liked this post, VHS Video Cover Art by Thomas Hodge / The Dude Designs (Schiffer Publishing) is available on Amazon, chock-full of gorgeous VHS cover art from the 80s from forgotten gems to total camp and a total run down video rental memory lane. VHS Cover Art Goodies: The Imp

Believe it or not, the masterpiece of cinema known as The Imp only garners a 4.5 out of 10 on IMDB even though its alternate title Sorority Babes in The Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama and the accompanying gratuitous nudity I’m sure made more than a few video rental shops enough bucks from the curious to secure a permanent place on the shelf. The plot – I hope you’re not expecting too much here- has to do with the aforementioned sorority girls, a bowling alley and a pledge involving an imp-possessed trophy. I’m not recommending you watch this, just have a laugh at the cover art. Following 1983’s Project A, Part 2 was released in 1987 in China also starring Jackie Chan as Dragon Ma continuing the struggle to bring pirates to justice. Fun fact: Chan sings the theme song during the end credits. Not to be confused with anime classic Project A-Ko, Project A (also called Pirate Patrol) is a period comedy/action piece in a series of Project A films made in China and starring Jackie Chan. In this 1983 feature, Hong Kong police officer Dragon Ma (Chan) is determined to bring pirates to justice. It’s a little harder than he thought. You know you’re watching a quality film when the filming is only planned for 10 days and the crew quits after 5 days in protest to one of their coworkers being fired. (IMDB) The Mutant Kid, also known as Plutonium Baby works out what happens when you expose pregnant women to radiation. Hint: it ends up in a murderous rampage so don’t do it. A kid’s mother sends him to the store to get some food for the fridge and he comes back with a bike. Not just any bike, a magic bike that helps him save the local hot dog stand and redeem himself to his parental unit for skitching off with her cash. The Dirt Bike Kid stars Peter Billingsley in 1985, just 2 years after his big screen blockbuster, A Christmas Story.
